Five
diabetics opt for an extreme polar adventure to boost
public awareness of the problems caused by diabetes.
Will Cross : 35, American, expedition and top-level athlete. He already has a number of major climbs to his credit, including Denali and Aconcagua. He has been a member of expeditions to the Sahara and Thar (India) deserts. He is the Principal of an alternative school in Pittsburgh, Pensylvania.
Mike Cross : 60, British. Currently personnel manager for the Air Cadet Organisation, an association of over 62 000 young people sponsored by the Royal Air Force. Has taken part in expeditions to Borneo, Malaysia and the Himalayas.
Jerry Petersen : 36, mountaineer and the only member of the team who is not a diabetic. He has 18 years' experience in fighting fires and survival operations.
Dr. Bret Goodpastor : 35, a qualified biologist, Bret Goodpastor teaches medicine and physical education at the university of Pittsburgh. He has been conducting in-depth research into diabetes for over 5 years. His role in the expedition is one of researcher.
