COMPAQ - all ready to go again!
"South Through The Pole 1997-98" has a loyal partner which
has supported all of our expeditions since 1994.
Compaq is the world's largest manufacturer of PCs and network
servers. Compaq can identify in a unique manner with the ambitions
of our expedition. The company is barely 15 years old, and no-one
thought it possible that a small manufacturer of PCs would ever
grow to be ranked 5th in the computer industry. And it doesn't
intend to stay there, either, because Compaq is looking to be
in the Top 3 by the year 2000.
The objectives of our polar expeditions have often seemed to
be just as unattainable. In 1994, we set off for the North Pole,
and a year later for Greenland. Both were journeys of exploration
with apparently insurmountable obstacles. On both occasions, Compaq
was with us in the form of a notebook computer into which we were
able to enter our observations at any time, or even send data
via a satellite link.
A Compaq Armada notebook will be going on "South Through
The Pole 1997-98". This portable PC which is built to withstand
the toughest of conditions. And Compaq is also providing the
financial support which makes this expedition possible.
Compaq is also the principal sponsor of "The Last Continent".
This impressive exhibition - which runs from October 1997 to February
in the Brussels Jubelpark - pays homage to 100 years of Belgian
presence at the poles, from Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery to "South
Through The Pole 1997-98".
