The 'North Through the Pole' took place in 1994
setting out from Ellesmere Island in the Far North of Canada.
Alain Hubert and Didier Goetghebuer
left Ellesmere Island on 20th April,
reaching the geographic North Pole
on 17th May, 94 days later
and after covering
nearly 1000 km on the Arctic ice

Following this adventure, the two men wrote a book
that retraces, day by day, hour after hour,
their day-to-day existence out on the ice ;
"L'Enfer Blanc" ("White Hell") was published by Labor (Brussels).
This was the first time that computer company Compaq
had sponsored Alain Hubert.
At the time, the antarctica.org site did not yet exist.

Which is why we are providing (see next page)
some brief information here about the progress of the expedition.
