Dave Mill
During his attempt, Mill will be aided by a colleague who will be sending him messages by telepathy at certain times determined in advance. The study, which is being conducted under the leadership of Dr Wiseman (researcher into the paranormal) will consist of sending the polar traveller - by telepathy, of course - images selected at random; Dave will then have to note down what goes through his mind at the time and write down his impressions, which he will then send off to his HQ.
Another person will read David's notes later and compare them with four postcards of the image - the real target and three decoys. The judge will not know which image was the real target and will have to decide which postcard comes the nearest to the notes sent at the time of the communication made by David. If he selects the correct target, the attempt will then be declared a success. He will have some 20 tests to carry out in this way during his trek; it only remains to be hoped hat all this will not slow the walker down in his mad dash for the Pole ! |

Dave Mill a été recueilli le vendredi 12 mai. Le communiqué fait état d'un besoin de ravitaillement (alors qu'il tentait l'autonomie) en nourriture, en fuel et en batteries. Il avait donc quelque peu mal calculé son coup l'Ecossais. Un peu trop présompteux aussi sans doute ; c'est le lot des grands aventuriers de se croire capable des plus formidables exploits...
Quoiqu'il en soit, le coup de l'opération a été jugé trop onéreux - enfin, c'est ce qui a été annoncé. ll paraît que le pilote - un certain Douglas - a effectué une opération de secours digne des meilleurs films d'aventure en se posant sur la glace malgré un temps exécrable et une visibilité peu engageante.
Mill annonce déjà, comme c'est l'habitude dans ce genre de circonstances, qu'il va remettre cela l'an prochain. Rendez-vous est pris.

Communication between Dave Mill and his HQ is still very poor. We have nevertheless learnt in these last few days that, despite the fact that he is in the process of going North - slowly but surely -on 06 May during his radio retransmission he envisaged a possible replenishment - provided he reached the 87th parallel.
The next day, the communiqué testified to the Scot's decision to have himself repatriated to Resolute (and therefore to go home) as soon as he could find a stretch of ice where the Twin Otter that had to come to collect him could land. Dave had nevertheless reached 85° degrees. Apart from the fact that the weather was truly frightful, at this point in time we have no further clarification as to the reasons that have led the adventurer to abandon his project in such a way.
It is true that these adventurers of the extreme are generally not too fond of explaining their decisions to turn back, nor of publicly admitting their defeat…

Les communications entre l'expédition de l'Ecossais et son QG sont extrêmement mauvaises depuis le départ.
Ce jour, cepandant, ceux qui suivent Dave Mill ont pu donner sa position : 84°41'45" N & 72° ??' 55" W.
Ils ont d'autre part informé la presse qu'un hélicoptère est venu chercher une expédition suédoise au pôle Nord.
24 avril : 19e jour sur la banquise. Dave Mill a bon moral mais avoue par radio à son attaché de presse, Jayne Warren, que la plus grosse difficulté éprouvée jusqu'ici a été la solitude.
Il a déjà parcouru 139 km depuis le 9 avril, date de son départ de Ward Hunt. Sa position du jour est : 84°19'38"N / 72°32'31"W.
18 avril
bon moral, a effectué 14 km dans la journée.
14 avril
Dave a parcouru 19 miles aujorud'hui, son traîneau pèse encore 105 kilos.
13 avril
Il se débarrasse une nouvelle fois de kilos supplémentaires en abandonnant sur la glace 7 jours de vivres.
10 avril
jugeant sans doute qu'il est trop loud, l'aventurier écossais leste son traîneau de 20 jours de vivres. Ce qui fait qu'il ne lui en reste plus que 40. Avec 60 jours de fuel, cepandant.
