GLOBAL WARMING
- Learning through Adventure -
In
keeping with the previous Polar expeditions organised by Alain Hubert,
this enormous challenge Compaq Pole II - The Ultimate Arctic Crossing
- is dedicated to the aim of raising global awareness of the need
to safeguard fragile polar ecosystem.
The
environment that Alain Hubert and Dixie Dansercoer wil be travelling
through for more than four months is totally appropriate to the elaboration
of such a message.
If
thre is one place on Earth where it is possible to observe the effects
of Global Warming, it has to be the polar regions, and in particular
the Arctic ice pack where the thickness of the ice has been drastically
decreasing over the years (40% during the last ten years).
As
they have undertaken to carry out scientific experiments (some aimed
at measuring the thickness of the ice), Alain and Dixie will be able,
not only to participate in reaching a better understanding of this
hostile and mysterious region of the Earth, but they will also experience
at first hand the progressive and ineluctable decline in the thickness
of the Arctic ice pack.
