Route
map across the Arctic Ocean
See our comparative map of the other Arctic expeditions this Spring 2002. week from 6 to 12 May / 11th week
For the most enthusiastic among our visitors, they will be pleased to know that antarctica.org will continue to monitor the other expeditions. Three
expeditions are still under way on the route from Ward Hunt -> the
North Pole, the two British women (Pom Oliver, the
third, having had to drop out after sustaining frost-bitten feet), the
Scot Dave Mill in his solo attempt, and the two Swedes Tom and Tina
Sjogren. Frenchman Jean-Louis Etienne, on the route from the North Pole
-> Greenland, continues drifting on board his futuristic capsule
"Polar Observer", together with his dog Lynet. Singapore's
Khoo Swee Chiow accompanied by his guide Paul Landry arrived at the
pole on Sunday 5 May at 6.50 p.m. having covered (picking up fresh supplies
en route) 771 km in 45 days. To avoid having to surf via this "live"page,
visitors should click on the "live" button on the home page
of our site.
Those
who would like to continue to take an interest in what happens after
the COMPAQ POLE II expedition should know that the information about
the follow-up of the adventure will be on this page (easily accessible
from the home page): publication of books, photos, films,
appointments with the World Exploration cycle, other conferences at
which one or other of the explorers will speak and finally, the information
concerning the International Polar Foundation, a large-scale project
originated by Alain Hubert.
