NORDPOLEN 2004
Bettina Aller and Jean-Gabriel Leynaud

The Danish explorer, Bettina Aller, is making her third attempt to cross the Arctic Ocean. In 2001, she tried to accomplish the long crossing between Siberia and Canada, but had to abandon her trek after 7 days out on the ice on account of the polar bears who were stalking her and the frostbite she had suffered to her fingers (caused by having to hold her revolver in her hand, ready to shoot at all times). In 2000, she also had to give up her attempt after twisting her knee badly 15 days after setting out.

This time, Bettina is accompanied by the Frenchman Jean-Gabriel Leynaud and is attempting the route between Cape Arktichevski and the North Pole with fresh supplies along the way.
